Anawim of today

Over the years the needs and demands of the street have changed and Anawim has changed accordingly. We still have the same core beliefs; they are just more defined. Anawim helps those who want to be helped. We are a clean house, free from drugs and alcohol, that provides for those basic needs, to which every individual should be entitled. Each month we can serve approximately 250 lunches, 120 dinners, 90 showers and 100 loads of laundry. This does not include our residential program. Those numbers simply reflect our response to basic needs. What we provide above all is a safe home for people to come to and feel like they are a part of something that is often missing in their lives. We do our best to provide a feeling of family: talking to each guest and finding out what they would like to do, what they need to do and discovering how Anawim House can help them explore and achieve their goals. We work with our people making meals, cleaning up after a meal, working in the garden or just playing a game of cards. Anawim promotes personal growth, attending a twelve step program, seeking professional help, education or returning to the work force. Each individual makes their own choice in what they need to do for themselves. We just help guide them in that process.

Anawim asks volunteers to come and teach our people new skills; woodworking, folk art, working in the garden, baking, etc. We find that many of our people are very talented but simply failed to develop their gifts.

We also go out as a family on outings; bowling, golf, hiking, swimming or for something as simple as just going out for ice cream.

Anawim shows people how to live in a loving, caring, spiritual environment. Our goal is to give them the tools they need, to take what they learn from our home and apply it to their own lives.
